With many children still spending more time at home and the summer holidays looming, an entrepreneurial music teacher has launched a new online song writing programme to inspire budding young musicians.
Aimed at children aged 8 to 13, Songwriting4kids is a fun way to learn about music, instruments, rhythm, lyrics and composition to create their own songs.
Drawing on her 20 plus years’ experience teaching music in schools, music clubs, workshops and lockdown Zoom classes, Ruth Seodi made the decision to take Songwriting4kids online to reach children on a wider scale.
Using a series of step-by-step videos, interactive learning techniques and song-writing software, Songwriting4kids Level 1 shows children how to write their own songs with lyrics, melody and backing all at their own pace, see and hear their songs as they evolve note-by-note and perform the finished result to their families and friends.
Each level has eight modules and Level 2 goes on to explore combining instruments including wind, brass, percussion, electric guitars and synthesisers and encourages using different instrumental sounds.
“I developed Songwriting4kids for any child who is keen to explore their interest in song-writing, either at home or in a club group and give children with no musical knowledge a chance to shine and harness their enthusiasm and imagination,” said Ruth Seodi. “It proved to be a real hit, so when the schools closed, going online was a great opportunity to allow more children to get creative at home.”
Songwriting4kids is already getting rave reviews. “We have enjoyed these courses as they have provided a creative outlet alongside school work,” said parent Bianca Permal. “It helps stretch our daughter’s imagination in a musical way and she loves showing us the songs she has created and beams with delight when sharing a new piece.”
Another parent, Elsa Robson added: “Our daughter has had the opportunity to bring together her love of music in so many ways, writing lyrics, composing music and creating lots of new pieces. She has learnt more about different musical instruments and how they can work together as well as using new IT skills. She has loved unravelling the mystery of making good music and how she can do this for herself.”
