Middlebeck social events to include new features

Posted onPosted on 23rd Feb

A packed series of evening events is to return to a Middlebeck social spot in Newark — with some new additions.

Last year Gannets cafe, which sits in the heart of the growing community on the edge of the town, saw more than 1,500 people attend an array of evening events, including quizzes, wine tasting, live music, and more.

The monthly events — organised by Urban&Civic, the master developer behind the community at Middlebeck — return with a quiz on 20th March.

The programme will include the return of last year’s popular activities, featuring quizzes, wine tasting, live music, and Meet the Brewer events.

This year will also see the addition of three summer pub nights.

On top of the events at Gannets, members of the Middlebeck community enjoyed other events in 2025, including an Easter trail, a community archaeology event, Halloween pumpkin carving, community litter picks, a worm farm workshop, and a Christmas Fayre and Santa’s Grotto.

These were staged by Urban&Civic in close partnership with other local organisations including Hawton Church, YMCA Newark & Sherwood, King’s Court Care Home, and Christ Church C of E Primary School — with many set to be repeated this year.

Simon Murphy, Urban&Civic’s community development lead for Middlebeck, said: “Our events at Gannets last year were a real hit, bringing together residents and neighbours for plenty of fun, which saw new friendships formed and provided people with somewhere to socialise in the evenings in Middlebeck.

“The community support for these events, and overwhelmingly positive feedback, inspired us to bring you bigger and better events for 2026, which we’re doing — with even more plans in the pipeline. We also listened closely to feedback, which included pub nights, so we’ve got no fewer than three on the way for 2026.”
