A memorial bench, plaque, and new tree have been unveiled at Sconce and Devon Park, Newark, in honour of Robert Hayden, a colleague at Newark and Sherwood District Council who died in July after a battle with illness.
Friends, family, and colleagues gathered at the site of the commemorative bench in remembrance of Robert, on what would have been his 63rd birthday.
Robert, a much-respected member of the Grounds Maintenance team, had worked for the council since 1984, and the site was chosen as Sconce and Devon was his favourite park he worked on during his 37 years of service in Newark and Sherwood.
Council chief executive John Robinson said: “Bob was a well-liked and respected member of the Grounds Maintenance team, and my condolences go to his family and friends.
“Over 30 years working towards keeping our parks and green spaces beautiful for others to enjoy is an outstanding achievement and I’m so pleased to see that the commemorative bench, plaque, and tree will now be a place for friends and family to remember Bob and his lifetime of service to our community. He will be sadly missed.”
In attendance were Robert’s family, friends, and colleagues from the Grounds Maintenance Team, and other colleagues from the council.
