Posted onPosted on 26th Jun

Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery — which raises funds for good causes in the area — is celebrating handing over a £2,000 prize to one lucky player.

Jeannette Tokeley was delighted to receive her prize and is very happy to see the benefits going to her chosen charity — Newark Patriotic Fund.

Jeannette said: “I support Newark Patriotic Fund and this local lottery simply because it helps local people, particularly those who volunteer to protect us all in times of conflict and have to deal with the consequences of that mission.

“Winning the £2,000 was a wonderful surprise as I found the email on my return from holiday and so it paid for that holiday and probably another later on!”

Since launching over £17,600 has been won and almost £59,000 has been raised for the local community.

The lottery, provided by Newark and Sherwood District Council, is supporting 66 registered causes.

Players choose which to help with their ticket purchase. The chosen cause receives 50% of the £1 ticket with an additional 10% going to further support the local community.

There are weekly cash prizes to be won up to the value of the £25,000 jackpot.

Coun Lee Brazier, portfolio holder for Homes and Health at the council, said: “A huge congratulations to Jeannette on her exciting cash prize!

“The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is a fantastic way to help support our local causes and you may be even with a chance of winning something for yourself too.

“If you haven’t signed up already, I really recommend doing so. It’s a great way to support your local community.”
