Jack has a winning eye for design!

A creative eight-year-old had his eyes on the prize after winning a competition to design a pair of glasses.

Jack Miller, a winner of the national competition, was presented with a collection of Paddington Bear books and a fun model of his design at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in St Marks Shopping Centre, Newark.

Youngsters were encouraged to submit their imaginative designs, with all proceeds from the £1 entry fee going to Alzheimer’s Society.

Scrivens branch manager Sam Humphreys said: “Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity for the eighth successive year. This was a fun way to engage children and raise awareness of the charity and its work.

“Jack did a great job with his design and is a worthy winner.”

Jack’s mother, Grace, said: “We spotted the competition when visiting the branch for Jack’s eye test and he was keen to have a go.

“Jack also noticed that the proceeds were going to Alzheimer’s Society and wanted to support the charity as his paternal grandad has Alzheimer’s disease.

“Jack wears glasses, so he enjoyed creating his very own design. I’m delighted that he won and feel so proud of him.”
