Property enquiries in the Midlands have surged in recent weeks, with house hunters looking to take advantage of government initiatives designed to bolster the housing market and help more people own their own homes.
Housebuilder Bloor Homes Midlands has seen increased interest from prospective house hunters looking to make life-changing moves to homes offering more indoor and outdoor space, fuelled by recent lockdowns.
Michele Rose, regional sales director at Bloor Homes Midlands, said: “Since the lockdown has eased, we’ve seen a surge in enquiries across our new home developments in the Midlands.
“People are spending more time at home, leading many to question the suitability of their current homes for their lifestyle. With homes now expected to be a workplace, a place to home school, as well as a place to relax and unwind, demand for extra space, particularly a study or space for a home office as well as a private garden is driving new property searches.
“For many of us, the importance of our own outdoor space has really been highlighted over the last few months and the vast majority of our buyers have cited this as one of the top items on the wish list for their new homes.
“Homes at our developments have been carefully designed, both inside and out, to make them ideal for modern living. Spacious open-plan kitchen/dining rooms with doors opening out onto their own gardens, are a key feature, helping to create light and bright living areas and connect the indoor and outside spaces.”
Last month, the government announced an extension to its Help to Buy initiative, providing an additional two months for home purchases to complete in order to qualify for Help to Buy. This extension to 28 February 2021, coupled with the stamp duty holiday, is providing a welcome boost to the housing market, making it a favourable time to secure a new home.
Michele continues: “Our buyers are certainly looking to take advantage of these initiatives to help them take their first steps onto the property ladder or upsize to a new home that better meets their needs.”
