Garden recycling collections to resume in Newark and Sherwood

Posted onPosted on 15th May

Newark and Sherwood District Council will resume its garden recycling collections on Monday, 1st June.

The service was temporarily suspended so the vehicles could be used to maintain the vital household waste and recycling collections to allow for the waste crews to keep safe social distancing. The council has now been able to source additional vehicles so that the garden waste service can resume.

Customers are asked to leave their brown garden waste bin out by 6am on its usual collection day as set out on their calendar. Bins should not be overfilled or contaminated with food or domestic household items.

Stickers should be clearly placed on each bin as only bins with stickers will be collected. Waste crews will be unable to take side waste.

Coun David Lloyd, leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We thank residents for their patience and the support they have shown to our waste crews while they worked hard to prioritise household waste and recycling collections.

“We are continually reviewing our services, with the safety of our colleagues remaining our absolute priority. With up to 13,000 customers using our garden recycling service it has not been possible to continue this alongside the measures we have had to put in place to keep the vital household waste and recycling collections running by doubling the lorries used for each round.

“However we have now successfully sourced additional vehicles so that the garden recycling service can resume for residents in Newark and Sherwood from Monday, 1st June.”

Residents can sign up to the service, which costs £35 per year (1 April to 31 March), or order an additional bin by visiting the Council website here: https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/gardenrecycling/. Residents can also check their brown bin collection day using the calendar.

Customers who renewed or signed up to the service while it was temporarily suspended will be entitled to a reduced subscription for the following year 2021/22.
