Newark and Sherwood District Council has announced its annual free parking will be available this year on Sundays in the lead up to Christmas.
The free parking, in five car parks, will start on Sunday 28 November and run up until Sunday 19 December.
Newark and Sherwood District Council is calling on residents to use the free parking to be able to do their Christmas shopping locally this year, to help support the district’s retailers and high streets.
It is hoped that free parking on Sundays will assist town centre retail businesses post pandemic and will help attract more footfall to the town centre in the run-up to Christmas.
Newark has a number of beautiful independent shops selling a range of unique items which would make perfect Christmas gifts. In addition, local butchers, bakers and market stalls offer everything needed for Christmas dinner. After the pandemic, shopping locally is one way we can all help the long-term economic recovery of our high streets.
The council-run car parks offering this free parking include those located on Appletongate, London Road, The Wharf, Tolney Lane and Castle House.
