Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People has launched a free summer fundraising event for families in Nottinghamshire to get involved in.
The Summer Virtual Rainbows 5K encourages families, friends and colleagues to help spread smiles by completing the miles. People can run, hop, skip, cycle or even dance the distance, in one go or in short bursts throughout August.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, Rainbows has been unable to hold any of its usual popular events, which has had a huge impact on the charity’s fundraising efforts and it faces losses up to £1 million.
Registration for the event is free and if the minimum sponsorship is raised, £20 per adult and £10 per child, participants will get a limited edition medal. Special Rainbows T-shirts and water bottles are also up for grabs.
Gary Farnfield, Rainbows community fundraiser, said: “We are really excited to be launching the Summer Virtual Rainbows 5k as it is something the whole family, or businesses, can take part in and it is free. It is also really easy to do as you can complete the 5k in any way you like, at any point during August.
“If you are able to raise sponsorship for us, that would be incredible. We have been hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis and our income has dropped significantly. A little bit of sponsorship money goes a long way to helping us support over 450 children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.”
