Following on from the success of the 2022 festival, Newark Book Festival will return from 6th to 9th July, thanks to funding support from Arts Council England.
This year the festival theme is Our World. Events will explore nature and the environment, and visitors will learn about the planet as well as exploring further afield into space.!
The four-day festival will feature author talks, writing workshops, storytelling sessions, and street theatre, as well the return of the literature village in Newark Market Place.
“We are thrilled to welcome a fantastic range of authors, musicians, and artists to Newark for the 2023 festival,” said festival artistic director Sara Bullimore.
“This year we’ll be exploring Our Wonderful World. This theme will run alongside the usual amazing writing from across all your favourite genres, including crime, romance, historical fiction, poetry, and storytelling. We are bringing plenty of new features to the festival this year, including our Young Ambassadors programme, and there are lots of new venues too.
“The festival will begin with our schools day at Newark Town Hall and finish with a fabulous book-themed music finale at the Palace Theatre on the Sunday evening.
“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to book some time off work and explore your local area or, if you are a visitor, then why not book your staycation to Newark this summer. We are also linking to the ADHD Neurodiversity Umbrellas Project as part of Newark Creates, so are really excited about this.”
The festival will feature a participative programme for local schools, which will host authors, poets, illustrators, and young journalist visits, and a series of pop-up events and festival days will run at various locations across the district throughout the year.
The festival is looking for additional sponsors, and applications for Festival Volunteers are now open. There are also still places left for stallholders in the Literature village in the Market Place. Contact [email protected] for details.
