Nottinghamshire County Council has warned people to be aware of fraudsters posing to be from the council.
A spokesman said: “We understand some residents have received calls from people claiming to be from the council. The caller is asking residents to provide their bank details so they can provide social care and/or volunteer related payments.
“These calls are not genuine as we will never ask for your bank details over the phone.
“If you receive a call of this kind or you have been a victim of a scam, you should call the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0300 500 8080 or visit their website.
“Please note that our Customer Services Centre staff are continuing to make safe and well checks over the phone to make sure the most vulnerable people in Nottinghamshire are getting the support they need, but we will never ask for bank details.”
