Hundreds of new homes in Newark have been given the green light.

Newark and Sherwood District Council granted reserved matters planning approval to 430 new homes at Fernwood South.

Members of the Planning Committee voted to approve the application from housebuilder Persimmon.

The development will feature a mixture of family homes, ranging from one to five-bedroom properties.
A total of 13% will be designated as affordable housing, offered through a variety of tenures, including those for affordable rent, discounted open market value, and first homes.

Millions of pounds will be invested in the area through Section 106 agreements, with the housebuilder funding a new primary school, open spaces, and transport improvements.

Persimmon will also deliver new football and rugby pitches, a children’s play area, and allotments as part of the completed development.

George Breed, head of planning at Persimmon Nottingham, said: “We’re pleased the council has approved these plans for 430 high-quality, new homes.

“We look forward to starting construction on the site, which with its extensive transport links and excellent local amenities, we’re sure will prove extremely popular with local homebuyers.”
