Cooking up £1,265 for bereavement centre

Posted onPosted on 29th Aug

Managers from Bakkavor Desserts in Newark faced wet sponges at fun event in aid of the site’s charity of the year, The Children’s Bereavement Centre.

The splash the manager event saw 37 colleagues doused as £1,165 was raised over four days, and a further £110 collected from donations at the staff shop.

The charity helps children and young people cope with the grieving process brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis of someone close to them.

Splash the manager was the latest in a series of fundraising initiatives Bakkavor’s Newark colleagues have run to support their charity of the year.

Previously they have also donated ducks for a duck race, run a golf day, and raised money through the staff shop. So far this year the staff have raise more than £3,270 for The Children’s Bereavement Centre.
Bakkavor Desserts Newark is the largest chilled desserts factory in Europe, creating more than three million desserts for UK supermarkets every week.

Caron Varney, senior HR business partner at the company, said: “Over the summer, we have run a number of fun activities onsite as part of our colleague engagement and wellbeing.

“Splash the manager week allowed us to have a bit of fun and also raise money for an important cause, a charity that is close to our hearts. For one, I got soaked, but we all did it to help others and we are proud to support The Children’s Bereavement Centre as our charity of the year — as chosen by our colleagues here in Newark.”
