Community band’s festive plans

The Dukeries Community Band is rehearsing for the Christmas period.

Following the switch-on of the Christmas lights in Ollerton last month, it will be performing at the Ollerton WI Christmas party in the first week of December and at the OVRA Christmas celebration on Friday, 10th December.

Members will then play at a Christmas evening at Mansfield Rotary Club, before appearing at Sherwood Forest Visitors’ Centre on Sunday, 19th December, from 12noon to 12.45pm.

The band’s final festive performance will be at the St Paulinus Community Garden on Monday, 20th December, at 5pm.

This year the band has welcomed eight further members and there is still room for more. The band rehearses on a Tuesday evening, email for details.

The band is aiming to put on a community concert sometime in 2022.

At the moment the band is conducted by Malcolm Bevan, who started the band in 1984 and has been running it since.

However, he is hoping to take a rest from conducting and join the cornet ranks of the band. If there is a conductor or band trainer who would like to take over the reins, email for details.
