Collect LitterLotto coins and win prizes during Great Big Green Week

Posted onPosted on 6th Jun

Residents across Newark and Sherwood are being encouraged to take part in a fun and rewarding litter-picking and recycling initiative during Great Big Green Week, running from 7th to 15th June.

In partnership with LitterLotto, the council is launching a district-wide double coin collection event for the duration of Great Big Green Week to inspire people to help keep their communities clean and green. By using the free LitterLotto app to log litter they’ve picked up, or correctly disposed of, participants will earn double digital coins that could lead to exciting prizes and extra entries into jackpot draws.

Each piece of litter binned and logged through the app earns users a chance to win the global LitterLotto jackpot of up to £2,000, as well as entry into a special £100 Newark and Sherwood Jackpot, exclusive to participants in the district during Great Big Green Week. Coins collected can be redeemed for prizes or extra jackpot entries when spent in the Coin Store.

Coun Simon Forde, portfolio holder for Climate and the Environment, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for residents to get involved in a fun, community-driven initiative that benefits both our environment and our neighbourhoods. Whether you’re out walking the dog, heading to school, enjoying our parks, or recycling in your own home, every piece of litter you pick up or correctly dispose of makes a difference—and now it could win you a prize too!”

The LitterLotto app is free to download and easy to use. Simply snap a photo of the litter as you bin it, and you’ll be automatically entered into the prize draws. The more you bin, the more chances you have to win.

David Landsberg, chief executive of LitterLotto, said: “The LitterLotto team and myself are thrilled to be working in partnership with Newark and Sherwood District Council, working together to help keep the beautiful district free of litter and make it simple for residents to recycle their waste at home.”

Newark and Sherwood District Council also supports any group that would like to organise their own community litter pick by providing bags and high-vis vests and collecting the rubbish afterwards. More information can be found at Community litter picks | Newark & Sherwood District Council.

The initiative is part of Newark and Sherwood’s activities during Great Big Green Week, a nationwide celebration of action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
