Care home helps carer in need

Posted onPosted on 16th Oct

Staff at Barchester Healthcare’s Edingley Lodge Care Home have stepped in to help one of their carers in her hour of need.

Earlier this year Kelly Jones was diagnosed with lung cancer, and then after receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy she was told she would need to have her leg amputated. In no time at all, Kelly’s life had changed completely.

The general manager at Edingley Lodge, Jilu Stephen, wanted to do something special to help Kelly, and got in touch with Barchester’s Charitable Foundation to help by providing an electric wheelchair for Kelly.

Soon after the electric wheelchair arrived at the home, residents and staff at Edingley Lodge came together to welcome Kelly back to receive the gift.

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a charity that aims to make a real difference to the lives of older people and other adults with disabilities. Their funding focus is about aiding mobility and connecting or reconnecting people with others in their local community.

Jilu said: “When we heard about Kelly, we were devastated for her. So we are all delighted to be able to gift the chair to such a lovely lady who has dedicated her life to helping and supporting others. It really does gladden all our hearts to know we are making her life that bit better.”

Kelly added: “I cannot thank the wonderful team at Edingley Lodge enough. I am over the moon to be able to get out and about in my electric chair. I am so grateful to Edingley Lodge and Barchester, they have been so supportive and so incredibly generous. This gift means the world to me.”
