Campaign calls for people to back minster’s angels!

Posted onPosted on 15th Dec

Southwell Minster is asking people who hold music at the cathedral close to their hearts to support the future of its choir.

It said the Cathedral Choristers are at the heart of the minster’s worship and music — enriching services, lifting spirits, and bringing joy to thousands each year.

The Sing, Choirs of Angels appeal aim to nurture the young people’s musical training, education, and development — ensuring that the minster’s choral tradition continues to flourish.

The appeal is seeking 100 supporters to give to the Christmas campaign. Every donor will receive one or more special tokens of thanks for their gift.

There are different levels of support:

Cherubim donor — For £20 receive a Music Supporter pin badge (for up to 50 supporters).
Seraphim donor — For £50 receive a pin badge as well as a chorister candle and stand (for up to 40 supporters).

Guardian Angel donor — For £250 receive a pin badge, chorister candle, and stand, plus an invitation for two to the Dean and Rector Chori’s New Year Gathering in January for up to 10 supporters.

A spokesperson said the appeal and support matters because the minster does not receive any government funding, and the Church of England provides less than 20% of what’s needed to sustain its work.

“The rest comes from people like you — supporters who believe in the beauty and importance of this sacred place and its music,” they added.
