A Newark woman is joining a group of around 15 to 20 businesspeople from across the Midlands to raise money for four charities – including one based in her home town.
Jessica McClory will be walking 26 miles to support Newark-based mental health charity Shawmind; St Giles Hospice, Sutton Coldfield; The Community Foundation for Staffordshire; and Charity Link.
The fundraiser, planned for 15th May around the Trent and Mersey Canal, has been called Walking 4 Causes, when the businesspeople from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire will be aiming to raise £1,000 each for the four charities.
Jessica explained how Walking 4 Causes was started by Sue Clarke, who chairs business networking meetings across the Midlands, including Network B2B. Sue (pictured) runs her own bookkeeping training business, Windmill Bookkeeping and Training Services based in Nether Heage, near Belper.
“Hearing how charities that are part of the various groups are struggling due to the impact of Covid-19 meant Sue was determined to find a way to help,” said Jessica.
“She reached out to a few members of the networking groups, myself included, and got us on board with this idea.
“I’m really proud to be taking part in an event that not only benefits good causes in the local community but is also bringing together businesses in the local community who, rather than competing for customers, are all working towards a common goal – to help.
“We’re sharing updates and information across our personal social media profiles with the hashtag #walking4causes, as well as a dedicated Instagram account @walking4causes.”
