Business backs two schools’ foodbanks

Posted onPosted on 12th Jul

As part of celebrating 30 years of business and community involvement, staff at Bakkavor Desserts have raised

£2,020 to tackle food poverty in the Newark community, supporting both The Kings School and Barnby Road Academy foodbanks.

The donations were raised through a raffle run across the Bakkavor Desserts site in Newark.

Suppliers and businesses, both local and national, donated more than 90 raffle prizes, ranging from Amazon vouchers and food hampers to iPads and Tom Jones concert tickets.

The £2,020 raised will be shared equally between the two foodbanks.

The initiative forms part of a year-long commitment by Bakkavor Desserts to support the school’s foodbanks as adopted charities for 2023.

In addition to food donations a wide range of other initiatives are planned for the year ahead.

From opening in 1993 as Laurens Patisseries to being acquired by Bakkavor in 2006, Bakkavor Desserts has grown to become a market-leading chilled desserts manufacturer that feeds millions of families across the nation.

The growth of the business over the past 30 years has strengthened community relations, with the Newark site providing employment opportunities to more than 2,000 colleagues, while also maintaining support for over 30 local charities.

The latest £2,020 donation adds another facet to Bakkavor’s broader commitment to supporting the local community over the decades, having previously donated more than 20,000 desserts and £50,000 for fundraising events.
