Posted onPosted on 31st Jul

Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is celebrating a £2,000 winner – since launching more than £20,450 has been won and almost £62,000 raised for the local community.

Newark and Sherwood District Council says the lottery, which has a jackpot of £25,000, aims to help local not-for-profits causes.

There are more than 66 registered causes that players can choose to help and the latest winner, Gary Scullion, was delighted to receive his £2,000 prize and very happy to see the benefits going to hisr chosen charity – Newark Brazil FC.

Gary said: “I heard about the lottery through Newark Brazil Football club, and I’ve chosen to support them as my son has been playing football for this team for many years and my company was once a shirt sponsor (Stormsaver) for the team. The money will be very much appreciated due to the financial crisis that the country is currently in.”

Coun Paul Taylor, portfolio holder for Public Protection and Community Relations at the council, said: “A huge congratulations to Gary for his exciting cash prize! The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is such a great way to help support local causes across Newark and Sherwood and you might even be in with a chance of winning something nice for yourself too! If you haven’t signed up already, I really recommend doing so – it’s a great way to support your local community.”
