Magnus Church of England Academy in Newark has received recognition for its commitment to equality and diversity from Equaliteach Empowered.
The academy achieved a Bronze Equalities Award after its first assessment.
Helen Murray, senior leader: Student Engagement at the school, said: “Our academy celebrates and welcomes children and families from all backgrounds and communities, and we pride ourselves in the care we take to include everyone with love and compassion.
“Seeking this award was a way of showcasing the commitment that we have towards equality and diversity.
“To do this, we evidenced the many ways we ensure that everyone feels they are part of our Magnus family.
“We are determined to ensure our work continues and improves as we move forward into future seasons.”
Helen said the academy has also invested in the Leading Parent Partnership Award programme, a national accreditation for schools to strengthen the relationship between home and school.
“We want to make sure all of our families feel valued,” she added. The whole school staff are involved, and we are actively exploring ways to encourage even more parents to engage with their child’s learning.
“We are running a parents and carers coffee and cake mornings once per month, where parents can drop in and ask questions, seek support, or just chat.”
In a letter to the academy, Kate Hollinshead, chief operating officer of Equaliteach, said: “Well done on all of your hard work towards completing your portfolio of evidence, which shows the great equality and diversity work you are doing at Magnus Church of England Academy… a fantastic achievement and thank you for your commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout your school.”
