A614 improvements move a step closer

Plans to move forward to the next stage of major road improvements along the A614/A6097 between Ollerton and Lowdham have reached a major milestone.

A report was discussed at the Communities and Place Committee meeting at Nottinghamshire County Council, detailing the plans which are part of the Government’s Transport Investment Strategy of major road networks for improvements, and highlights that the council’s business case for this has been submitted to the Government.

The aim of the work is to reduce congestion, support economic growth, support housing delivery and road users.

Coun John Cottee, chairman of the Communities and Place Committee at the county council, said: “I would like to thank all of those people who have been involved in the recent consultation activity and helped us to further shape our plans.

“This ambitious £28m project has been a top priority for the county council for some time and I am pleased to see that it is now progressing. The business case, which has now gone to the Department for Transport, demonstrates the significant benefits of the plans for our residents within this part of the county.”

The complete package of measures within the scheme includes six junction improvements along the A614 and A6097

The six junction improvements are:
• Ollerton Roundabout – the intersection of the A614 / A616 / A6075 roundabout
• Mickledale Lane junction – the A614 / Mickledale Lane crossroads
• White Post roundabout – the A614 / Mansfield Road roundabout
• Warren Hill junction – the A614 / A6097 priority junction
• Lowdham Roundabout – the A6097 / A612 Nottingham Road / Southwell Road roundabout, and
• Kirk Hill junction – the A6097 / Kirk Hill crossroads.

A virtual public consultation, which was held in November, attracted around 10,000 viewings. The consultation looked at two updated proposals following the first consultation last year. The plans being looked at by local people were a revised layout for the Lowdham roundabout and a new proposal to upgrade a junction at Kirk Hill East Bridgford. These plans were shaped from the first round of consultation.

Planning permission will be required, and a submission will be made in the early part of this year.
