Newark choir to join West End cast on Palace Theatre stage

Members of East Midlands Musical Theatre Choir will take to the stage alongside the West End cast and musicians of Back to Bacharach when the acclaimed live concert comes to Newark’s Palace Theatre on Saturday, 31st October.

The choir, which is based in Newark, is rehearsing for the special appearance, which will see them join Back to Bacharach’s vocalists and The Magic Moments Orchestra on stage at the theatre.

The collaboration will give members of the choir the opportunity to perform as part of an established touring theatre production — and give local audiences the chance to come along and support singers from their own community.

Alan Bradshaw, founder and musical director of the choir, said: “This is such a wonderful opportunity for us. We come together each week to share our passion for music and singing, so we’re absolutely delighted to have the chance to perform alongside a professional touring company and orchestra, on the stage of our wonderful local theatre.

“Music has such a positive way of bringing people together, and the opportunity to be part of something like this was one we couldn’t turn down. We jumped at the chance!”

Back to Bacharach has toured theatres across the UK since 2015, celebrating the extraordinary catalogue of Burt Bacharach and the songs that became the soundtrack to generations.

Audiences are often surprised to discover just how many of the songs they already
know – Close To You, Walk On By, I Say A Little Prayer, Alfie, The Look Of Love, Always Something There To Remind Me, What The World Needs Now, What’s New Pussycat?, Magic Moments and Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.

Performed completely live by West End vocalists and The Magic Moments Orchestra, Back to Bacharach celebrates the music rather than impersonating the artists who originally made these songs famous.

Back to Bacharach Producer Sue Howell added: “One of the loveliest things about touring the show is being able to involve talented singers from the communities we visit.

“We’re delighted that East Midlands Musical Theatre Choir will be joining us in Newark. There’s something very special about local singers stepping on to the stage alongside our touring theatre company, with their families, friends and community there to support them.”
