Newark Festival invites community to join colourful parade

Posted onPosted on 14th Aug

Newark is set to come alive this August Bank Holiday weekend as Newark Festival returns with a vibrant programme of events. One of the most exciting highlights will be the Newark Creates Parade, taking place on Monday, 25th August, from 4.15pm, starting from Kirkgate (Castlegate side).

The community-led parade will wind its way through the town centre, showcasing the creativity and spirit of Newark’s residents. Organised as part of the wider Newark Festival celebrations, the parade invites people of all ages to take part by joining a series of themed workshops in the days leading up to the event.

Running from 18th to 21st August, the workshops offer a hands-on opportunity to craft costumes and props that participants will wear during the parade. Each session is designed to be fun, accessible, and engaging, encouraging people to explore their creativity while contributing to a shared artistic experience.

Participants can choose to make fox masks and tails, giant paper flowers, willow lantern bees, or woodland deer headdresses and staffs. The workshops will be led by experienced artists and use a variety of materials, from cardboard and tissue paper to willow, fabric, and ribbon, ensuring each creation is unique and expressive.

Spaces for the workshops are limited, and early booking is advised with morning and afternoon sessions available on each day. To book a place on one of the free workshops, contact clare.janes@inspireculture.org.uk.
