Veterans treated to tea at the Town Hall

Posted onPosted on 17th Nov

Newark and Sherwood District Council hosted a tea party at Newark Town Hall to honour veterans from around the district.

The event helped to open a weekend of Remembrance events and services across the district. It was attended by around 80 veterans and Service personnel.

Food was supplied by Gadsby’s of Southwell and The Real Milk Company. There was also 1940s-themed entertainment with singer Jayne Darling.

“It’s important that as each year passes we continue to remember the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces in the past. Anyone who has served their country deserves our respect and admiration,” said Coun Neil Ross, Armed Forces champion for the council.

“As a council, we do whatever we can to support veterans, including making our council a supportive environment for ex-Service personnel to work. We are extremely proud to have signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant and this year to have been awarded a Boots and Beret award for our work with veterans who work for us. This afternoon was a chance for us to extend this support to the wider district and to show that we do care.

“It was a joy to see veterans from across the district and of all ages coming together to enjoy this moment together.”
