Raising a glass to help charity’s work with homeless

Posted onPosted on 20th Jul

The Newark Emmaus Trust has hosted a wine-tasting event with local wine merchant Ann et Vin, writes Rachel Jones.

The trust, with the support of 89 attendees, raised £1,600 for the charity, which helps young homeless people in the Newark area.

Local businesses, including IDT Technical Solutions, supported the event by donating prizes for the raffle, including an iPad, and vouchers for Ashiana Muskha and Iberico World Tapas in Nottingham.

Nicola Burley, chief executive of the trust, said: “89 supporters and friends enjoyed an amazing evening in the surroundings of the stunning Newark Town Hall Ballroom, with Ann et Vin.

“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who attended; to Ann (Hayes); the hard-working team at Newark Town Hall and also those who worked so hard on the night to make the event the resounding success that it was.

“The money raised will allow us to provide our residents with activities that they would not otherwise be able to do. We are truly grateful.”

Ann et Vin, an award-winning independent wine shop situated on Castlegate, provided a selection of eight different and affordable wines for attendees to try.

Ann Hayes, of Ann et Vin, said: “It is always a pleasure and a fun experience. It is great to see so many local people coming together to enjoy first-class wines and at the same time support the young homeless in our area through Newark Emmaus Trust.”

The trust provides accommodation, support and training for homeless young people aged 16 to 25, including pregnant teenagers, young parents and their babies.

All accommodation is in Newark and includes shared houses for young people of the same gender, shared houses for young people of mixed gender, and self-contained flats and houses for parents and their babies or family unit.
