A Newark charity is celebrating after being awarded £431,199 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund that will ‘make a big difference to the lives of young homeless people’, reports Rachel Jones.
Newark Emmaus Trust said the money would be used to maintain accommodation for young homeless people and help residents learn how to maintain their property and improve their lives and work skills for the next five years.
Chief executive Nikki Burley (pictured, left, with Sharon Richardson) explained: “We are thrilled to have been successful in our application for continuation funding from the National Lottery.
“This means so much to us and will enable us to continue to help our young residents across all areas of living independently, to include learning how to maintain their accommodation, increase their work and learning skills, along with improving their mental and physical health.
“Because of this, our young people will be able to make better life-choices and learn how to manage their money and pay their bills.
“Crucially, they will learn to support each other, and in turn Newark Emmaus Trust.”
Nikki thanked the National Lottery for continuing to support its Delivering Excellence project
“Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can continue our work with young homeless people for the next five years,” she added. “This will make a big difference to people’s lives.”
There are currently 39 adults and 12 children receiving support and services from the trust.
The charity provides various types of accommodation for young people, including shared houses for same gender and mixed gender people, and self-contained flats for young people and their babies.
