Under-5s invited to play at museum

Posted onPosted on 4th Jan

Parents and carers of children under-5 are in for a treat this January as the National Civil War Centre’s popular Mini Museum sessions return from Thursday 13th.

Offering unique play experiences, Mini Museum is free for children and just £4 for adults, running at the Centre every Thursday in term time, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

The drop-in play sessions were a hit with parents and childminders when they last took place in early 2020 and the relaunch this month will again see family fun available around the museum with chances to explore and play in the galleries. Each week will have a different theme, communicated through songs, stories and play as well as activities like treasure hunts, sandpits, and more.

Carys Coulton Jones, business manager of the National Civil War Centre, said: “It’s so important for museums to be enjoyed by people of all ages and these great sessions allow our youngest residents to interact with our collections while having fun. We loved seeing children realise that museums can be a place for play as well as discovery in 2020 and are looking forward to welcoming more families of under 5s to explore and enjoy this year.”

There is no need to book to attend a Mini Museum session, simply show up during the hour and join in. The onsite Café Nineteen20 will be open after the sessions with toddler-friendly food on offer should families wish to stay and havea snack or lunch together.
