An annual all-day music festival that raises funds for local charities is celebrating another successful event
Blidfest, which was launched in 2014, is staged in the garden of the Bird in Hand pub in Blidworth and features bands and artistes from opera to rock, country to folk music.
This year it supported two local organisations — Blidworth on the Move, a voluntary transport service that takes people to hospital and medical appointments and aims to prevent loneliness, and The Social Action Hub, which provides activity programmes for children, during school holidays and in the evenings during term times, as well as day trips.
Blidfest 2021 raised £644 for the two charities thanks to the generosity of the performers and donations from festivalgoers.
Organiser John Wyke-Smith said: “We never charge for entry to enable anyone to attend, so we rely on the generosity of locals to donate on the day. We just ask people to donate what they can.
“This year we featured seven bands and three solo artists, and over more than 500 people came along. The generous donations on the day made me proud to live in Blidworth.”
The performers included Scuppered, Cherry Vixen, Ragged Rascals, Storm Trees, Andrew Clarke, John Lynwood Band, Terry the Drum, Smith & Dolan, Rob Harley, and Cottonmouth.
Next year’s Blidfest is on 9th July.
