A new development to provide older people with additional care support has opened in Boughton.
Broadleaves is the fourth ‘housing with care’ scheme to be opened by Newark and Sherwood District Council and has been aimed for people aged over 60.
There are 30 spacious and accessible apartments designed to meet possible future needs, with features including a wet room and wider doorways.
Twenty of the apartments have been designated for people with daily care needs. An on-site care team provides support to these residents and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Each apartment has under-floor heating, a modern kitchen with fitted cooker, and is linked to the care line system, reassuring residents that they will be able to easily seek emergency assistance at any time of the day or night.
There are also 10 two-bedroom bungalows, all with the same features.
All residents will have access to communal facilities such as a communal lounge, laundry room, guest room and even a TV lounge and hairdressing salon. There is also a commercial kitchen with cooks employed to offer home cooked and tasty lunches.
The district council, Nottinghamshire County Council and construction partner nmcn have worked in partnership to deliver the £8.6m development.
Coun Tim Wendels, chairman of the district council’s Homes and Communities Committee, said: “We’re excited to see this outstanding housing complex is now open. The district has an ageing population, evidenced through our housing register, which is a key influence in terms of the housing that we are providing.
“Each apartment provides residents with a wide range of facilities and amenities that will allow them to live safely and comfortably, along with 24-hour support should they need it.”
Coun Boyd Elliott, chair of the county council’s Adult Social Care and Public Health Committee, added: “Broadleaves is a fantastic scheme that will offer people from Newark and Sherwood the opportunity to live as independently as possible in their own home, close to local amenities.
“People with social care needs also have the peace of mind that a care team is on-site for them 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
