Rehearsals now under way at the Dukeries Community Band, where players have begun preparing for the first major event of the year — the Sherwood Forest Rotary Proms in November.

There are now 26 registered players and the band hopes to recruit more members.

Woodwind, brass and percussion players are required and, in particular, the band wants to find a tuba player and a drum kit player as well as a conductor.

A spokesman said: “As we do not have all instrumental parts covered at rehearsals we require someone to train the players and take them through the pieces in preparation for each concert, when we are joined by associate members to make up numbers. Three major concerts are arranged during the year plus seasonal events.”
