Residents across Nottinghamshire are being urged to follow Government guidance on the first weekend of the county being under Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions.
Public Health Nottinghamshire is highlighting the no mixing indoors rule as crucial to prevent the spread of infection.
Whether at home or in indoor public spaces such as cafes, pubs and restaurants, residents should not socialise with anyone outside of their immediate household or support bubble (formed when a single adult household joins with another household and which, once established, should not be altered).
Outdoors, mixing in groups of up to six people is still permitted from any number of households but social distancing guidelines should be followed.
David Lloyd, leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “As the first weekend of the new restrictions and of half-term (school holidays), this is likely to be a critical time in our community’s fight against coronavirus but also, for many, a difficult one emotionally.
“School holidays are a time when extended families get together and I can empathise with how hard it is to miss out on this. However, I know that the best way to care about these loved ones is to protect them by following the guidance.
“I urge you all to do the same as it is only by acting as one that we can protect our community and reduce these worrying rates. The palpable sense of community in Newark and Sherwood is something that I am particularly proud of so I strongly believe that together we can defend it.”
Despite the rise in hospital admissions, those with hospital appointments are urged to attend as planned. This is both to prevent serious conditions from remaining undiagnosed and to prevent an unmanageable backlog of appointments for the NHS.
Anyone who develops symptoms of Covid-19, including a high temperature, new persistent cough or loss of taste or smell, should self-isolate immediately and book a test by calling 119 or visiting https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test.
