£13,000 thanks for your generosity from hospice

Posted onPosted on 16th Dec

Beaumond House Hospice Care in Newark raised £13,588 in just one week after encouraging supporters to give the gift of hospice care at Christmas.

As part of the Christmas Challenge, which is organised by The Big Give, any donations made to the hospice from 2nd to 9th December were doubled.

Through the generous donations made, Beaumond House was able to surpass its £12,300 target with the support of five local businesses, which all provided match funding.

Money raised will enable the charity to continue providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care, supporting patients and their families in Newark and Sherwood — like Sue and her family.

Sue, who previously worked as a care assistant at the hospice, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in July 2024. She made the decision to receive in-patient care at Beaumond House, where she enjoyed massages, personal care, meditation, and music until she died, surrounded by her family.

Her family said: “Sue was caring, loving and always willing to help those closest to her. She never put herself first and, as a family, we are honoured to have had such an amazing woman in our lives.

“From the minute she arrived at the hospice, everything felt peaceful and welcoming, and this never stopped throughout the time we all spent there. She was more at peace and happy from the minute she arrived until her final breaths were taken.

The support of Beaumond House made Sue’s passing so much easier for her and for us, as the care she received was amazing. We can’t express how grateful we are to Beaumond House for looking after Sue and supporting us at such a sad and difficult time.”

Andrea Ward, individual giving fundraising manager at Beaumond House Hospice Care, said: “Our supporters never fail to amaze us with their generosity and we are so grateful for their donations during the Christmas Challenge, which have allowed us to exceed our target and raise over £13,000.

“We would also like to say a special thanks to our generous match funders — Norwood Park Golf Club, Abbott & Co, Southwell & District Lions, Field Dog Fairs and The Reed Foundation. The campaign was also supported by Alasdair Morrison & Mundys. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without their generous support.

“Fundraisers like this are so vital to the hospice, as the care we provide isn’t fully funded by the NHS. It costs us £2.8m a year to run our service and £2.2m of this has to be raised through donations, our shops and support from local businesses. It’s because of this that we’re able to continue making a real difference to our patients when every moment matters.”
