1,000,000 steps to raise funds for John Eastwood Hospice

Share:

Edwinstowe fundraiser Brian Hawkins (75) and fellow walker Michael Dickinson (72) have been continuing their fundraising for John Eastwood Hospice, Sutton, during the coronavirus restrictions.

They have raised more than £380,000 for the hospice over the past 16 years after the hospice cared for Brian’s wife, Glennys.

They have walked many famous and beautiful paths, including Thames Path, West Highland Way, The Isle of Man, and coast to coast in Majorca in the past.

This year, not to be deterred by the coronavirus, Brian and Michael decided to undergo the challenge of walking one million steps – more than 500 miles – to raise £50,000 for the hospice, walking an average of 30,000 steps a day towards their target.

Brian said: “I realise there are many NHS initiatives out there at present due to Covid-19, but meanwhile the John Eastwood Hospice and its staff are still working tirelessly.

“We are intending to walk one million steps in and around our homes in their support.”
